Position Summary:
Orlando Health Jewett Orthopedic Institute is one of the region’s largest orthopedic and sports medicine practices, providing comprehensive care for more than 250,000 patients each year. In August 2023, the institute opened Florida’s first dedicated orthopedic hospital, featuring 75 private inpatient rooms, 10 operating suites with four virtually connected suites that can be used to train surgeons around the world, and a state-of-the-art research and innovation center with a 10-station bio skills lab and 3D printer.
In March 2023, a new medical pavilion opened adjacent to the hospital and houses outpatient clinics, an imaging suite, physical therapy spaces and the largest orthopedic ambulatory surgery center in Florida. Jewett Orthopedic Institute is hiring for an Environmental Services Technician!
The Environmental Services Technician is responsible for executing the daily duties required to establish and maintain a safe, clean, healing environment. They are also responsible for ensuring daily room cleaning and timely room turnaround times related to patient throughput within the basic principles of environmental hygiene and infection prevention. The Environmental Services Technician, in accordance with organizational standards of quality, is an essential contributor to cleaning, disinfection, infection prevention, and customer experience.

Responsibilities:
Essential Functions
- Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, using appropriate designated engagement techniques.
- Responsible for the cleaning and disinfecting of patient rooms and ancillary areas, to include, but not limited to, bathrooms, public areas, corridors, medication storage rooms as directed and any other areas that may require attention using designated and appropriate chemicals and cleaning procedures.
- Must have good working knowledge and be capable of accessing and using all department related technology systems including, but not limited to, the Bed Management systems.
- Replenishes supplies as needed, remove bio-medical waste, trash and soiled linen as required daily and changes cubicle/window curtains as needed.
- Completes patient room and bathroom cleaning daily to accommodate discharges/admissions and overall cleanliness standards utilizing the approved procedures for patient room cleaning to include Bed Management systems where applicable.
- Performs duties while demonstrating working knowledge of the healthcare cleaning and disinfecting principles and requirements, proper and safe chemical use, equipment handling, and labor-saving products for all items within the healthcare environment for which tasked with servicing.
- Adheres to all organization safety, risk management, and infection control guidelines and standards while promoting a culture of safety.
- Operates UV disinfection machine as needed.
- Actively participates in departmental performance improvement initiatives, including, but not limited to, initiatives to improve Customer Experience and cleanliness metrics.
- Follows all infection prevention practices including proper cleaning and disinfection protocols and process, hand hygiene, standard & isolation precautions, as well as proper donning and doffing of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
- Recognizes and adheres to patient privacy requirements (HIPAA).
- Reports unsafe situations and turns in Engineering Service requests for repair.
- Ability to communicate, read, and write in standard English as this is the main business language.
- Maintains reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, the ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state, and local standards.
- Maintains compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures.
- Demonstrates effective use of computers and/or mobile devices for daily job performance activities.
- Identify and utilize appropriate resources to ensure identified problems or concerns are followed through and resolved.
- Demonstrates knowledge of facility safety requirements.
- Demonstrates the ability to operate and properly maintain all EVS tools and equipment needed to clean and disinfect the environment.
- Demonstrates the ability to set up/dismantle beds for cleaning according to department cleaning procedures.
- Complete other task as assigned by EVS leadership.
- Ability to communicate orally or in writing openly and candidly; creates an environment where co-workers and team members reciprocate.
